You can:

  • Use letter sounds or word beginnings rather than letter names, for example:
  • “I spy with my little eye something beginning with ‘c’, (using a ‘k’ sound) for cat
  • I spy with my little eye something beginning with ‘tr’ for tree
  • Continue taking turns

  • Play this game using letter names and looking for words in the environment. For example, “I spy with my little eye something beginning with ‘M’ – answer “McDonalds”
  • Play this game starting with the first letter of your child’s name
  • Play ‘I Spy’ using rhyming sounds eg: I spy something rhyming with cat [hat, mat]
